The Pentagon will create immortal beings

Office of Advanced Research Projects (DARPA) under the Pentagon's budget for 2011 fiscal year, intends to spend six million dollars on a project to create artificial living beings, reports Wired. It is assumed that these organisms can live virtually forever, unless it is decided that it was time to die. The new project, which plans to create a DARPA, will be called BioDesign. According to management, the project will use recent advances of biotechnology, which will create a vibrant and capable of breathing creatures with certain biological characteristics. Not specify whether the artificial multicellular organism, but stressed that its cells will have a resistance to aging and death. Have similar properties, such as cancer cells. In the DNA synthetic organisms will be introduced markers allow to identify it. DARPA also wants to provide "cellular switch, activation of which lead to immediate death of the organism. How is this to be implemented is still unknown.
In addition, DARPA plans to invest $ 20 million in the development of synthetic biology, and 7,5 million dollars in research to analyze and change the genome. According to professor of biology at New York University David Fitch (David Fitch), DARPA intends to use a different approach to evolution, presenting it not as a series of random changes, as well as a course of action. Description BioDesign can be found on the 265 th page, 522-page draft budget for 2011 DARPA fiscal year.
